Ending the ‘blame game' in divorce

The government’s recent announcement of a new law to remove the need for divorcing couples in England and Wales to assign blame has been welcomed by many.

The move towards ‘no-fault divorce’ comes following a public consultation, with legislation expected to be introduced to Parliament at a future date.

Resolution,  formerly known as the Solicitors Family Law Association (SFLA), is an organisation of 6,500 family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales, who believe in a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters has been calling for change for over thirty years. All the fee earners in the John Hodge Solicitors Family Team are members of Resolution and  fully supporting its aims and objectives

Stewart Castle Head of the Family teams says; “At John Hodge Solicitors we always try to help couples deal with the consequences of relationship breakdown with as little acrimony as possible. The current divorce law can make this difficult. With this new legislation our divorce laws will be brought up to date – helping divorcing couples avoid unnecessary conflict for the benefit not just of themselves but any children involved.”

No timetable has been set for the necessary legislation to go before parliament for approval simply that this will be when ‘ parliamentary time allows’  so with other events taking up so much time at Westminster this may not be for a little while yet. In the meantime John Hodge Solicitors will continue to advice on all options available to resolve family disputes in as  non contentious a manner as possible.

John Hodge Solicitors has a Family Law team with experience in all aspects of family law, including disputes over financial matters (whether you are married or in a cohabiting relationship), children issues and divorce. Our solicitors are members of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel and Resolution and you can therefore be confident in the advice that you receive. The Family team offer a free consultation within which they provide expert advice with no obligation.
