Tell us about yourself
Originally from County Down, Northern Ireland, I came to the South West to study law at Bristol University and stayed in Bristol. I qualified as a solicitor some 28 years ago and have always specialised in family law.
I have been a Partner and Head of team for both international and national law firms. I specialise in divorce and finances including but not limited to cases involving all types of businesses, companies, partnerships, farms, trusts, investments and property portfolios.
What is your specialist area of law?
I have successfully negotiated and litigated multimillion-pound divorce settlements involving many types of assets including international and national businesses, trusts, property portfolios, wine, tractors, classic cars, yachts and planes.
I advise on private children's cases to include with whom a child should live, spend time with and leave to remove from the jurisdiction cases.
I can also advise on cohabitation agreements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
No case is too big or too small, and I have always enjoyed working with people from all walks of life. Over the years my clients have included company directors, professionals, farmers, property developers, athletes, jockeys, entrepreneurs, actors and musicians.
What do you offer clients of John Hodge Solicitors?
I am firm but fair when dealing with cases. You can be certain I will represent you fully with no stone unturned. This is why a lot of my work comes from recommendations from previous clients and personal contacts.
Do you belong to any Panels or Associations which show you have reached a notable level of expertise and experience in your specialist area of law?
I am a member of Resolution and endorse the qualities required as a member.
I advise clients who can be going through personal and financial turmoil. It is my job to help them through this as best as I can in finding a solution.
What do you most enjoy about your role?
I enjoy thrashing out a great settlement for a client. One that enables a client to move on emotionally and financially. Sometimes it is not an easy journey, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
I am an Irish rugby fan, and I support local rugby teams. I also enjoy horse racing from the sidelines. When not working, I can be found renovating property, swimming outdoors and indulging in good wine and food.
